Special Session on Social Responsibility
A central element of the Congress will be the discussion of social responsibility issues. These discussions will take place under the sub-theme of “Progressing Human Development through Innovative Social Responsibility Programs”.
As a reflection of the importance given to this issue, the Congress Organizers have scheduled a Special Session on Social Responsibility for Tuesday, 6 December from 15h15 – 16h45 in Meeting Room 103. This session will explore the relationship between human development and the petroleum industry.
Human development is a complex and evolving idea incorporating the basic premise that nations progress when their populations are healthier, live longer lives, are better educated and have the freedom to realize their potential through exercising real choices in their lives.
The aim of the Social Responsibility (SR) Special Session is to explore how the petroleum industry contributes to these elements of human development. The session will seek to answer questions such as: How is the petroleum industry contributing to human development in countries in which they operate? And, how can our industry leave behind a lasting “human development legacy”?
