We are delighted that our 20th World Petroleum Congress, to be held in Doha, Qatar, will be a historical milestone, as it will be the first Congress to take place in the Middle East. We are confident that our hosts, the Qatari National Committee of the World Petroleum Council and our expert committees will deliver an outstanding event.

We are privileged to be hosted by Qatar, a dynamic environment and a country whose importance in the global oil and gas industry is now so significant. At the World Petroleum Council we are committed to supporting the efforts of the Qatar Organising Committee for the 20th World Petroleum Congress to deliver a relevant and memorable congress.

In June 2008, over 4,000 delegates were registered at the 19th World Petroleum Congress in Madrid. Added to the more than 12,000 visitors at the exhibition and over 500 exhibitors, the World Petroleum Congress is indeed considered as the “Olympian Event of the Oil and Gas Industry”. New initiatives such as the Ministerial Sessions, the Social Responsibility Global Village, the electronic Poster Plaza and Special Sessions on youth and women in the industry, were all successfully implemented, and will be incorporated into the Doha Congress.

The theme of the Congress Energy Solutions for All – Promoting Cooperation, Innovation and Investment, addresses the key challenges facing the petroleum industry during this period of price volatility and global economic uncertainty. Our experts from the Congress Programme Committee have designed an outstanding programme with best practice keynote presentations, technical fora and expert round tables, to cover the width and breadth of the issues that both drive and impact the oil and gas industry. In addition, the World Petroleum Exhibition will showcase the latest technological innovations in both the upstream and downstream.

We invite delegates from around the world to join us along with our 63 member countries for five days of stimulating dialogue and networking in Doha, Qatar, in December 2011. We promise you won’t be disappointed!
