Finalists for prestigious WPC Excellence Awards in 2011

Every three years at the World Petroleum Congress, the World Petroleum Council honours exceptional projects and initiatives within the oil and gas sector with the WPC Excellence Awards. The prestigious awards will be presented to the winners on the first day of the Congress by H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Control and Transparancy Authority.

The prizes get awarded in two categories:

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The objective of the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA) is to distinguish companies, institutions or any public or private organisation (not individuals) engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence.

The following criteria were taken into consideration when assessing the projects:

World Petroleum Council Excellence Awards on Technological Developments

  • Technological breakthroughs
  • Innovative applications of existing technologies
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Wide applicability for the petroleum industry
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable and sustainable results (long term)

World Petroleum Council Excellence Awards on Social Responsibility

  • Innovative and far-reaching social responsibility initiatives benefitting the community or environment
  • Commitment and involvement of management and employees
  • Cooperation with local communities and stakeholders and development of mutually beneficial relations
  • Feasibility
  • Wide applicability and reproducibility within the petroleum sector
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable long-term sustainable results

Over 100 proposals were reviewed by the independent judging panel in this cycle’s awards nominations.

All the projects selected by the judges will be showcased during the Congress on Monday, 5 December at the Digital Poster Plaza (Hall 8) from 14h30 to 16h00.

WPC Excellence Awards for Youth

With many excellent submissions received by young authors, the World Petroleum Council decided to acknowledge the importance of youth to the energy industry by rewarding the best young presenters of the Congress. The 20th World Petroleum Congress Organizing Committee has chosen the best abstracts submitted by young people under 35 from all papers and posters in the Congress Forums.
