Introduction to the 20th World Petroleum Congress Call for Papers

The World Petroleum Council invites all oil and gas specialists around the world to share their knowledge and expertise with the attendees of the largest gathering for the petroleum industry, at the 20th World Petroleum Congress, to be held in Doha, Qatar, from the 4 – 8 December 2011.

The international Congress Programme Committee has prepared a wide-ranging Technical Programme to recognize the scientific, technological and professional achievements of the oil and gas sector. The topics for the sessions reflect the official theme for the 20th World Petroleum Congress: ‘Energy Solutions for All: Promoting Cooperation, Innovation and Investment’ With over 300 places to be awarded to the best papers and posters, the World Petroleum Congress demonstrates once again its role as a benchmark for the oil and gas industry.

Submissions are invited for a broad range of topics in the 24 Forums of the Congress. They are split across five key blocks, focusing on the latest developments and achievements in the areas of:

Block 1 – Natural Gas: the Energy that makes a Difference
Block 2 – New Exploration and Production Frontiers and Technologies
Block 3 – From the Well to the Consumer: innovations in refining, transportation, fuel technology and petro-chemistry
Block 4 – Complementary Energy Sources
Block 5 – Sustainability Commitment: environment, social, economy, education, governance

The Call for Papers for the 20th World Petrolium Congress will be open till 31st January 2011.

Only the main author can submit their unpublished, original abstracts of about 300 words via our online Abstract System. They will need to register their details, list their co-authors, then enter their abstract text (maximum of 350 words). Before submitting, they will get a chance to review their abstract and then have to provide their copyright agreement before the abstract can be submitted.

Guidelines

  • Obtain necessary clearance from your management
  • Abstracts can be submitted as papers, posters or either category.
  • All abstracts have to be submitted online by 31st January 2011
  • Abstracts must be no more than 350 words and should include a description of the proposed paper, with results/conclusions
  • Authors of paper proposals selected for the 20th World Petroleum Congress will be notified by the end of April 2011
  • If your abstract is accepted, it may be published, as submitted, in conference information media, including on the event website
  • Your paper proposal may be accepted for either technical presentation or poster presentation. If your paper proposal is accepted you will be required to produce a full technical paper and a Power Point presentation to support your technical presentation. The posters will be presented in Power Point format at the interactive Poster Plaza at the World Petroleum Exhibition
  • The abstracts will be included on the Congress Proceedings CD-ROM and be made available to all delegates of the event.
  • The full papers have to be submitted by 30th September 2011
  • Posters and Power Point presentations are due by 31st October 2011
  • Failure to submit your full paper by this deadline may result in your presentation being withdrawn from the Congress Programme and the author will not be entitled to present.
  • Detailed instructions on the preparation of full papers, slides and posters will be sent to the corresponding author of each accepted proposal.
  • Selected authors for papers and posters will benefit from the reduced Congress Speakers rate when registering before the 30th September 2011. World Petroleum Council assumes no obligation for expenses incurred by authors for travel, lodging, food, or other incidental expenses.

Commercialism

The World Petroleum Council has a policy against the use of commercial trade names, company names or language that is commercial in tone in titles, text or slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the Chairs and the Congress Programme Committee, in evaluating abstract proposals and the presence of commercialism may result in it being withdrawn from the Congress Programme.

Copyright

All authors of papers and posters presented at the conference will be required to accept a copyright release from the World Petroleum Council in order to complete their abstract submissions.
